Culture and history
In the 11th century, the Prieuré Notre-Dame de l'Oder was a Benedictine priory under the authority of Saint-Victor Abbey in Marseille. Its chapel was classified as a historic monument by decree of 12 July 1886. Notre-Dame de la Capelle is considered a former 15th-century castle chapel, while the Church of Saint-Gilles is considered an 11th-century church.
At present, the Prieuré Notre-Dame de l'Oder can only be visited as part of guided tours organised by the tourist office in July and August.
Hiking and trails
L’Ambialade is an easy 4.4-kilometre circular trail with a stated duration of 1 hour and 15 minutes. As a cultural walking trail, L’Ambialade crosses the Ambialet peninsula and leads to the churches, through the village and to the Prieuré. The circular trail also passes the dwellings carved into the rock at Roc Saint Jean.
L’Ambialade has been awarded the FFRandonnée® Tarn label and is part of the department’s validated trail network. The GR®36, which is also used by the GR®736, leads up to the ruins of Château Saint-Raphaël; the viewpoint rock can be reached after about 15 minutes on foot.
The Base de Canoë Kayak et Paddle Ambialet offers canoeing, kayaking and paddle tours starting in Ambialet for a full day, half a day or 1 hour and 30 minutes.
