Labarthe: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The wet meadows of the Prairies humides de Labarthe are home to the snake's head fritillary (Fritillaria meleagris), a threatened species protected at departmental level. They are also among the last remaining habitats of this species in western Tarn-et-Garonne. Designated as a type 1 continental ZNIEFF, the Prairies humides de Labarthe are located in the municipality of Labarthe. They are divided into three areas in the valleys of the Lemboulas and Lupte and include numerous wet meadows, ponds and small watercourses.

Nature

The Circuit des oiseaux de Labarthe is a family-friendly circular trail 7.9 kilometres long, with an average elevation change of 135 metres and an approximate duration of two and a half hours. It passes through the Lupte Valley, across meadows and agriculturally diverse slopes, and offers panoramas and wooded areas along the way. The Circuit d'interprétation du Pigné is a two-kilometre educational trail in a landscaped wetland, created to protect and explain the ecological diversity of wetlands.

Culture and History

Saint-Jean de Perges is one of the three recently restored churches in the municipality of Labarthe. The Église Saint-Martin de la Capelle is a simple building from the 17th or 18th century, with an elongated rectangular ground plan, a flat-ended chancel and a small bell gable with a single arched opening. The first document mentioning the Église Saint-Martin de la Capelle dates from 1252.

The medieval Église de Nevèges was rebuilt at the end of the 15th and beginning of the 16th century. Written sources attest to its existence since the 11th century. The presbytery adjoining the church dates from the 16th to the 18th century; the bell tower and portal were renewed in 1861. The original place of worship may have stood on the site of a Gallo-Roman villa; column shafts, mosaic fragments and floor tiles were excavated there in the 19th century. A historical information panel is located on site at the Église de Nevèges.

The Moulin de Saint-Géraud can be discovered as part of a tour offered by the miller. It is open for visits year-round by telephone appointment and offers guided tours only, starting at 10:00, 14:30 and 16:30. The mill includes a conservatory featuring objects from everyday life in the past; forgotten crafts are also demonstrated there. A sales deed from 1776 documents the mill. A bakery operated there until the middle of the 20th century. After it was purchased in 1999, the mill was restored and put back into operation.

Cycle Route

La Vagabonde is a cycle route more than 500 kilometres long. It begins in Montech in the Tarn-et-Garonne department and passes through Lot, Corrèze and Creuse before reaching Montluçon in the Allier department.
