Culture
The Château de Géniès stands on a rocky promontory above a bend in the Célé. The oldest parts may date from the late 15th or early 16th century. In the late 16th or early 17th century, the château was remodelled and partly rebuilt, possibly by Pierre de Peyronnenc or Jean Viguier de Fraust.
Near the GR 651 lies the Notre-Dame du Roc-Traoucat chapel in Sauliac-sur-Célé. The cave chapel contains a Black Madonna. The Ecomusée de Cuzals is closed to visitors so that the teams can focus on this project. It lies between Cahors and Figeac; the RD41 runs through the valley and the RD653 across the Causse.
Nature
Sauliac-sur-Célé lies in the Parc Naturel Régional des Causses du Quercy and in the Célé River basin. The river forms the south-eastern boundary of the Causse de Gramat. Near Sauliac-sur-Célé, the Célé is narrow and wild.
By the water
The Plage de Sauliac-sur-Célé lies below the village on the banks of the Célé. It is accessible year-round but is not supervised; swimming is at your own risk. Toilets and a water point are available on site.
Hiking
The Chemin de Pierre-Levée passes numerous structures typical of the Causses, built from dry stone, including dry-stone walls, caselles and a dolmen. The trail crosses a Natura 2000 area along the rocky cliffs of the old village.
On a longer and challenging section of the GR®651, hikers discover typical elements of the rural cultural heritage of the Causses du Quercy as well as the spectacular rocky cliff of old Sauliac-sur-Célé.
