Culture and History

There are two churches in Soublecause. The Église Saint-André is partially protected as a historic monument: the sanctuary and sacristy are included, while the nave and bell tower are excluded. The designation was made by decree on February 10, 1992.

The Église Saint-André displays major construction phases from the 15th, 18th, and 19th centuries. In 1569, it was set on fire by Montgomery’s troops; in 1756–1757, the mason Jean Ducasse rebuilt the church.

The chancel vault was raised in the sanctuary. Large windows provide plenty of light. The design features theatrical characteristics of Baroque art: changing proportions, varying vault heights, an upward-directed effect, and changing lighting conditions.

The single-nave Église Saint-Martin d’Héchac is associated with the former municipality of Héchac, which was incorporated into Soublecause in 1791. The church is documented in a cartulary of Madiran Abbey for the year 1039 and was almost completely rebuilt after a fire in the 16th century. Inside, there is an altarpiece dating from 1770, attributed to the Ferrère family. The altarpiece and tabernacle were classified as historic monuments in 1984.

Landscape

Domaine Pichard offers views of the slopes, vineyards, and the Pyrenees. The estate comprises 12 hectares of contiguous vineyards, facing south and overlooking the Pyrenees.

The “Autour d’Héchac” route in Soublecause is listed as covering 6.7 kilometers and taking 1 hour 50 minutes.

Agriculture and Food

The first organic vintage was produced at Domaine Pichard in 2015; the estate received its organic certification in the same year.

The “veau, vache, cochon, couvée…” educational workshop at Ferme Soubiren enables participants to actively engage with farm life, including observing, handling, and caring for animals. In a course at Ferme Soubiren, participants learn the steps involved in making sourdough bread and make their own bread.
