In Larroque, historical traces date back to the 12th century: the “Restes du donjon” originate from this period. By decree of 11 June 1930, the “Restes du donjon” were listed as a historic monument. The keep is the last surviving part of the former manor house of the Counts of Sabran.

The Monument des passeurs in Larroque commemorates Jean Bazerques, Joseph Barrere and Pierre Sabadie, who died in 1944.

Nature

Larroque’s natural heritage includes the type 2 ZNIEFF “Massifs forestiers de Cardeilhac et de l’Escale”. It covers 1,680 hectares and extends across six municipalities in the département.

The ZNIEFF “Forêt de Cardeilhac” covers 593.49 hectares and also extends into the municipality of Larroque. The Forêt de Cardeilhac is home to one of the département’s most significant populations of middle spotted woodpeckers.

Landscape

The Collines du Comminges landscape unit is characterized by rural village landscapes with views of the Pyrenees mountain range. The GR 86 crosses this landscape unit.

Activities

The Trail de Larroque is a recurring sporting event held as part of the village festival. The third edition, featuring a trail run, hike and mountain biking, was announced for 22 August 2026.

The “Balade des sobriquets” is a recurring guided walk through the municipality of Larroque. Using house nicknames, it presents the history of the village of Larroque and its inhabitants since the 17th century.
