Culture and History
Figarol brings together several traces of its history. In the Middle Ages, the village was dependent on the Templar commandery of Montsaunès. The parish church of Saint-Michel stands in the centre of the present-day village. It was built in the second half of the 19th century and has a Latin cross floor plan.
In the hamlet of Tépé, the former Saint-Michel church recalls an earlier era: it is Romanesque in style and today survives only as a ruin. Tépé is also home to a washhouse on the site of a former Templar chapel. Its rectangular basin is fed by a spring on the hillside.
Annual events in Figarol include a village festival. Garbure is also associated with these festivities.
Nature
Figarol is part of the ZNIEFF “Natural meadows, woods and streams of the Justale and Louch-Rieumajou valleys”. The Mercury bluet (Coenagrion mercuriale) has been observed in this area; the species is protected in France.
Leisure
Leisure activities in Figarol include walks in the forest and mushroom picking. The village also has an equestrian centre.
