Saint-Mont: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

History and Townscape

The Saint-Jean-Baptiste Abbey was founded in 1050 by the Gascon lord Bernard de Tumapaler on the remains of an earlier oppidum and joined to the Cluniac Order.

The Church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste is the only surviving evidence from the 11th century in Saint-Mont. Since 2002, it has also been home to France’s first private conservatory for ampelographic research.

Things to Do

The OENORANDO ENTRE VIGNES ET ADOUR is an easy 8.3-kilometre walking route in Saint-Mont. It starts at the Vignerons de Saint-Mont sales outlet at 101 Rue Bernard Tumapaler, where visitors can park before setting out.

The route passes through the Saget Valley and the Adour Valley before returning to the village spur. It also leads to the summit, where visitors can visit the Church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste.

Wine and Events

Saint Mont Vignoble en fête takes place every year on the last weekend of March. The programme includes visits to various wine-growing sites, cellars and wineries, as well as tastings and wine workshops.

The Chai des Vignerons de Saint Mont is open to visitors all year round. There, they can discover appellations, grape varieties, terroirs, châteaux and wineries.

The offerings include a discovery tour of the Atelier des Cépages, which introduces visitors to the art of winemaking and includes a tasting of four wines.

The Chai des Vignerons de Saint Mont also offers a 1.5-hour tour of the vineyard listed as a historic monument. During this visit to the only vineyard in France listed as a historic monument, the offer includes a tasting of three original cuvées made from indigenous grape varieties.

The boutique at the Chai des Vignerons de Saint Mont sells wines, Flocs, Armagnacs, Armagnac-soaked prunes and regional specialities.
