Culture and History

The Château de Saint-Beauzély is thought to date from the 12th century and to have formed the starting point for the development of the village. Today, it houses the Musée de la Mémoire de la Vie Rurale and has been listed as a Monument historique since 1998.

The Château / Musée de la vie rurale / Musée de la pierre presents more than 5,000 objects relating to agriculture, rural life and stone craftsmanship. Particular emphasis is placed on the historical extraction of sandstone and stoneworking in Saint-Beauzély. The Musée des Métiers de la Pierre et de la Vie Rurale introduces visitors to traditional activities, crafts and rural life in the Muse valley.

The medieval centre of Saint-Beauzély is characterised by sandstone houses and preserves remains such as the Porte de la Madeleine and the Passage du Voultre. The Église Saint-Jacques de Salsac is a pre-Romanesque and Romanesque religious building from the 10th and 12th centuries, built of sandstone and covered with slate slabs.

The Prieuré de Comberoumal is a former priory of the Order of Grandmont, founded at the end of the 12th century. The Prieuré includes a cloister, a chapter house, a communal room and a dormitory. It can be visited independently as part of a self-guided visit and hosts a concert every August as part of the Festival des Musiques Sacrées de Sylvanès.

The Sanctuaires antiques des Basiols are a Gallo-Roman archaeological site in Saint-Beauzély. The Sanctuaire des Basiols has been listed as a Monument historique since 14 April 1992.

Food and Discoveries

La Muse du Verger offers an experience ranging from fruit production to the production of spirits, concluding with a tasting in a vaulted cellar. In addition, there is a 1.5-hour guided tour about distillation in a vaulted cellar in the medieval centre of Saint-Beauzély.
