Palmas: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

History

From the Middle Ages until the French Revolution, Palmas was a lordship of the bishops of Rodez. The bishops of Rodez owned a powerful castle in Palmas. The Church of Saint Vincent was a former castle and parish church in the heart of this castle; its bell tower is the castle’s former keep. Since 1927, the Church of Saint Vincent has been listed as a historic monument.

In Palmas and its hamlets, architectural elements such as stones, windows and fireplaces from the ruins of the castle were reused in the 18th and 19th centuries.

At Pont de Palmas

The Pont de Palmas district is located 500 metres from the village of Palmas. Pont de Palmas was a toll bridge used to cross the Aveyron. The insignia of François d’Estaing are carved into Pont de Palmas.

The Auberge du Vieux Pont is located at Pont de Palmas in Palmas d’Aveyron. It is housed in an inn dating from 1640 with a vaulted hall. The Pont de Palmas district also features a remarkable house with a so-called Philibert roof; a little further away there is a magnificent washhouse.
