Culture
The Saint Laurent Chapel is a Romanesque castle chapel in Roquelaure and has been listed in the inventory since 1981. It houses a 16th-century Pietà. The Church of Notre-Dame d'Albiac preserves a walnut wood statue of the Virgin Mary dating from the late 15th century, which is listed as a historic monument.
The Church of Saint Jacques de Lassouts was built in the 15th century on the ruins of an earlier Romanesque church. Among its preserved furnishings is a listed Romanesque tympanum depicting Christ in a mandorla, surrounded by the four Evangelists and six Apostles.
Historical signs can also be found along the roads: more than 80 roadside and wayside crosses are visible from the roads and paths in Lassouts.
Nature
The Dourdou de Conques rises at the foot of the village centre of Lassouts. The area's geology is diverse: limestone can be found near Talpan and La Planquette, shale in the Lot Valley, and Rougier over a large part of the area; coal outcrops and volcanic rocks also occur in places. This diversity is also reflected in the building materials and is linked to the richness of the flora, in which at least 41 orchid species have been recorded.
The landscape also includes the rock field of Roquelaure. The term “lava flow of Roquelaure” is incorrect: it is actually a scree field of basalt rock on the slopes of Roquelaure Hill, above the village of Saint-Côme-d'Olt and the Lot Valley.
From the panorama at Roquelaure in the municipality of Lassouts, you can see the Lot Valley, Saint-Côme-d'Olt and the Aubrac Mountains. From Lassouts, you can overlook the wooded slopes of the Lot Valley with exceptional viewpoints.
Hiking
The Trail d'Aqui – Lassouts is 21 kilometres long and has 750 metres of elevation gain. Its route runs 33 percent on roads, 39 percent on wide paths and 28 percent on narrow trails. The trail passes through the village of Lassouts and by its 15th-century church.
A popular tour at the Castelnau-Lassouts Dam is 32 kilometres long. Since 2020, the dam site has also featured a permanent exhibition on the history of the dam, its role in the electricity system and water management.
Viewpoints
From the viewpoint at the Castelnau-Lassouts Dam, you can see the lake's last meander, the dam and the power station. Access to the panorama at Roquelaure via the D664 road from Clapas de Thubiès is recommended.
