The Fresse-sur-Moselle arboretum covers more than four hectares at an altitude of between 560 and 590 metres. It features 200 tree varieties from European, Mediterranean, African, Asian and American species. A two-kilometre fitness trail for athletes and walkers runs through the arboretum.
Trails Around the Town
The Circuit de l'Étang du Frac is an easy, two-kilometre family loop; a longer version is four kilometres long. The Circuit poussette de Fresse-sur-Moselle is a 2.5-kilometre circular trail starting at the car park of the church in Fresse-sur-Moselle, with a stated duration of 1 hour and 15 minutes; it leads as far as the Colline valley of Fresse-sur-Moselle.
A 9.7-kilometre, moderately difficult route to the Chapelle des Vés is marked with blue ring trail markers, includes 250 metres of elevation gain and has a stated duration of 3 hours and 15 minutes. The Voie Verte des Hautes Vosges is a 53-kilometre multi-activity trail along the former railway lines of the Moselle and Moselotte valleys.
Culture and the Past
The Chapelle des Vés was built in 1863 by farmers from the heights of Fresse-sur-Moselle, using materials from the former village church, and stands at an altitude of 767 metres. During the work on the Chapelle des Vés that began in 1998, around 50 volunteers, mostly former workers or retired tradespeople, used traditional techniques from the past.
Silver-lead and red-copper mines were already being operated in Fresse-sur-Moselle from the 17th century onwards. The Croix de Couard was erected in 1947 to commemorate the return of prisoners and deportees after the Second World War.
Views and Regional Discoveries
The Notre-Dame de Fresse statue, also known as the Vierge des Breuleux, stands in a small grotto and offers a viewpoint. The Pic des Corbeaux rock offers views of Le Thillot, Fresse-sur-Moselle and Ramonchamp.
A hike across the heights of the municipalities of Le Thillot and Fresse-sur-Moselle leads to the Ferme de la Chapelle des Vés, which opens its doors in the morning for a demonstration of the production of Munster, Barkass and goat cheese.
