Culture

The Papeterie de Lana was built in 1590 and acquired by the Krantz family in 1792. Its high-quality papers, decorated with fine watermarks, helped make Docelles known worldwide.

The Papeterie de Vraichamp was established downstream from the Barba in 1492. The paper mill was destroyed by an accidental fire in 1789 and closed in 1914.

Experiences

Randoland Docelles is a puzzle trail through the streets of Docelles. There are four puzzle sheets: one for adults and three divided by age group. The trail takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Trails and Landscape

The Haut-du-Bois loop is marked with a red disc; a red triangle connects the forest with the centre of Docelles. The loop passes the former LANA paper mills and through a varied landscape where woodland paths alternate with open spaces. It also offers numerous viewpoints over the surrounding valleys.

The La vallée du papier cycle route begins at the motorhome parking area on Place de l'Espine and crosses the Barba River over a small bridge.

A yew (Taxus baccata) in Rue du Colonel Bertin in Docelles is recorded as being 7 metres tall, with a diameter of 45 centimetres and an estimated age of 85 years.
