Champ-Le-Duc: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Romanesque Church of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption is considered one of the important Romanesque churches in the Vosges.

Culture and history

Notre-Dame de Champ-le-Duc has been classified as a French historic monument since 7 March 1908. The church was built in the Romanesque style from pink crystalline Vosges sandstone from the quarries of Fiménil, on a granite hill.

The furnishings of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption include baptismal fonts made of white sandstone, decorated with eight carved relief medallions. They date from before the reconstruction of the nave in 1720.

The organ also has its own historical classification: it was built in 1781 and attributed to Nicolas Dupont; its instrumental part was listed as a historic monument on 2 December 1965, and its case on 9 July 1975.

After the fire of 10 October 1993, the Romanesque Church of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption was restored. The original interior colours were preserved, and 15th-century frescoes discovered during the work were brought to prominence.

In the cemetery of Champ-le-Duc, the former ossuary was converted into a funerary chapel. Eight parish priests who succeeded one another between 1805 and 1943 were buried there.

The La Dame de Champ association organises concerts every year in the Romanesque church of Champ-le-Duc.

Visiting

From May to September, the church can be visited by the public without a guide. A QR code tour allows visitors to explore the church independently.

Guided tours for groups are available throughout the year upon prior request.

The “Le trésor des Mocoux” geocaching route is 1.5 km long and starts at the Romanesque church of Champ-le-Duc.

The Romanesque church of Champ-le-Duc is also listed as a stop on the Grandes Échappées Vosgiennes.

The GR de Pays “Tour de la Vologne” is a 148-kilometre circular route with 3,504 metres of elevation gain.
