Culture
The Église Saint-Michel houses a remarkable polychrome wooden Entombment in the Rhenish style dating from the late 15th century. The church is a former priory church founded from 1090 onwards by Benedictines under the authority of Luxeuil; it can be visited independently free of charge, and guided tours are available on request.
The Maison du Patrimoine Local is located in the former presbytery of Monthureux-sur-Saône and displays a collection of domestic and agricultural objects recalling former rural life. It is open in July and August. The Parcours entre Saône et Mouzon offers the opportunity to discover the town's thousand-year history in Monthureux-sur-Saône.
Nature
The Préfonrupt stream and the adjacent wetlands in the Vallon du Préfonrupt are home to the brook lamprey, the fish known as the bullhead, the fire salamander and the yellow-bellied toad. A circular educational trail in the Vallon du Préfonrupt starts at the Monthureux-sur-Saône cemetery car park, is marked ENS 88 and takes about one hour.
A landscaped path above the Vallon du Préfonrupt offers views of sandstone outcrops, an old quarry and the dense vegetation of this wooded valley.
Hiking
The Sentier du Père Maire (No. 15) starts in Monthureux-sur-Saône at Allée des Moines, near Place de la République. It passes the Fontaine du Buis, the Roche du Serpent and a railway tunnel classified as a Natura 2000 site, which is home to colonies of bats. The trail also includes a former monastery, the Pont des Prussiens, the Roche du Père Maire and the Vallon du Préfonrupt.
Les Balcons de la Saône (Nos. 2 and 3) start at Allée des Moines in Monthureux-sur-Saône, are rated easy and are listed as taking nine hours.
