Culture and History
The Chapelle Saint-Roch houses the statue „Christ aux liens dit bon-Dieu de Pitié“, which is considered a historic object worthy of protection. The chapel was rebuilt in 1625 by Pierre Klop and his wife Anne Fensch from Distroff as a thank-you for both having survived the plague. Another religious landmark is the Croix de chemin on the R.D. 2 in KÅ“nigsmacker, which was erected in 1853 for Nicolas Charet and Suzanne Kon.
The Église paroissiale Saint-Martin also preserves different historical layers. The head of a Gallo-Roman deity is set into its east wall. The present-day church was renovated around 1625 and rebuilt in 1740 as a single-nave hall church.
The Abri du Bichel-Sud, a shelter forming part of the Ligne Maginot's intermediate fortification, is located in the KÅ“nigsmacker forest. It was built in 1939/1940 to provide protection for around 40 members of the 167e régiment d’infanterie de forteresse.
Waterways and Cycle Paths
Between Kœnigsmacker in the north and Guénange in the south, the Itinéraire cyclable de la Moselle rive gauche forms a 46 km loop along both banks of the Moselle. Along the left bank of the Moselle, this route runs parallel to the Véloroute La Voie Bleue Moselle Saône à Vélo.
In Kœnigsmacker, the Véloroute La Voie Bleue continues along the right bank; the route follows traffic-free greenways.
The Itinéraire cyclable de la Canner follows the Canner River from Kédange-sur-Canner to Kœnigsmacker. It passes through a green valley to the Voie Bleue and the banks of the Moselle.
As a family-friendly alternative, the Chemin de la Moselle offers a route from Thionville along the right bank to the KÅ“nigsmacker lock.
