Fèves is situated in a cuesta landscape on the left bank of the Moselle. The sun-facing hillside offers views across the Moselle Valley as far as the city of Metz. Forest covers almost half of the municipality of Fèves. The village therefore combines a distinctive landscape character with a clear cultural heritage.

Landscape, walking trails and cycle routes

The waterways are also part of Fèves’ landscape: the Ruisseau de Fèves rises on a limestone slope of the Côtes de Moselle and flows through the areas of Fèves and Semécourt towards the Moselle Valley. Signposted circular routes are available for walks, including the GR 5 and trails maintained by the Club Vosgien. The GR 5 passes near Fèves town hall. There are also signposted cycle paths and circular cycling routes. The 9 km-long Boucle des coteaux passes through Fèves. For a bike ride, the 9 km-long Boucle des coteaux provides a clearly defined route framework and differs in its planning from the signposted walking trails.

A particular cultural highlight is the Église de la Nativité de Notre-Dame in Fèves. It is considered a rare example of 16th-century Gothic architecture and dates from 1523. The three rear window openings of the apse contain old stained-glass windows, probably installed around 1523. The axial stained-glass window of the parish church bears the inscription “HOC OPUS FECIT THOMAS” and is probably attributed to Thomas de Clinchamp. Exterior visits to the Église de la Nativité de Notre-Dame are possible; guided tours can be arranged on request.

The Fort Canrobert and the Chapelle Damien also form part of the area’s historical diversity. Fort Canrobert was built from 1870 onwards in the Bois de Fèves as part of the fortification line of Metz. The Chapelle Damien belongs to Fèves’ regional religious and cultural heritage, recognised by the French architectural and heritage protection authorities. Together with the parish church, this creates a programme of visits combining architectural, religious and military-historical themes.

Local change and access

The history of agriculture has also shaped Fèves. In the past, vineyards covered one third of the agriculturally usable land and were the villagers’ main resource. Later, the vineyards in Fèves were replaced by strawberry cultivation.
