Augny: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
The Sentier n°17 – La croix des vignes is a 3.6 km hiking trail with an elevation gain of 93 m and a moderate difficulty level.
Hiking
The La croix des vignes circular trail leads across hillsides, through wooded areas and orchards to the Croix des Vignes, where a rest area awaits hikers. The route can be extended with a short detour to the GR5 and across the slopes of Mont Saint-Blaise, offering views over the Moselle Valley.
When planning a trip around Augny, you may wish to rent a holiday apartment.
Nature
Parc Simon is free of charge and open to the public year-round. It contains a botanical collection of around 300 rare or local species, as well as numerous fruit trees. The park is also home to a gnarled beech tree that is around 160 years old, known as “joli fou”, which received the national “Arbre Remarquable” label in 2013.
History
Augny was formerly a wine-growing community; the vineyards disappeared with the emergence of phylloxera and industrialisation. The Tour Saint-Benoît is a fortified building that served as a refuge for the inhabitants during the siege led by Charles VII and his “écorcheurs”.
Culture
On the La croix des vignes circular trail, visitors can admire the 16th-century Ferme-château de Grosyeux.
The parish church of Augny is mentioned in a document from 1056. It features stained-glass windows from the 1960s, made by the Benoît de Nancy workshop, as well as a terracotta Stations of the Cross.
