Ségur-le-Château brings its history vividly to life at the Castrum de Ségur. The fortifications and terraces overlooking the village and the hilly landscape, the archaeological excavation site with its adjoining museum, and the tree-lined meadow of La Prade in a loop of the Auvézère River are open to the public. The site can be explored independently by following a circuit and using a historical leaflet for orientation and interpretation.

Culture and History
The medieval Château de Ségur, a former castrum of the viscounts, stands on a rocky promontory and offers a viewpoint over the village. At the same time, the Château de Ségur is a medieval castle complex of Carolingian origin that was an important seat of the Viscounts of Limoges.
The religious buildings also preserve a variety of historical and artistic traces. The Église Saint-Léger du Baillargeau was built at the end of the 19th century in an elegant Neo-Romanesque style and has a contemporary stained-glass window by Vincent Corpet from 2007 depicting the martyrdom of Saint Leodegar. The church of Saint-Léger in Ségur-le-Château also houses the painting “Le Christ et la Samaritaine”.
Several façades feature sculptures known as “Plaizentins”, which help visitors discover the village. A village tour with historical interpretation panels adds another way to explore the local history.
Nature and Trails
Ségur-le-Château has an arboretum containing 60 identified plant species, connected to a botanical educational trail. The Parc-agricole et paysager du Chédal holds the “Jardin remarquable” label.
Three hiking trails of 7 km, 7.5 km, and 15 km start from Ségur-le-Château, including one designated as a PDIPR trail. One of these trails passes the Moulin du pont Lasveyras, which is regarded as a place of resistance and remembrance.
Visitor Information
The Castrum de Ségur is open for visits from 1 July to 31 August 2026, Wednesday to Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. In addition, the free mobile application “Vidéo Guide Nouvelle Aquitaine” offers videos and audio descriptions about the heritage of Ségur-le-Château.
