The Les Cars archaeological circular trail is moderately difficult, 12 kilometres long, and listed as taking 3 hours and 30 minutes. The Les Moulins de Razel route is a moderately difficult hike of 8 kilometres, with an indicated duration of around 2 hours and 45 minutes.
The Les Cars archaeological site is freely accessible all year round. The Pont de Varieras may date from the Carolingian period and is used by several hiking trails.
Nature
Pérols-sur-Vézère is situated on the Plateau de Millevaches; the elevation ranges from 707 metres to the 904-metre-high Puy de Razel.
The Ars stream becomes the Petite Vézère at its confluence with other streams in the area of Pérols-sur-Vézère. In this area, the watercourse’s good water quality is evidenced by the presence of otters.
The Barsanges peat bog lies below the car park on the Sentier du Meunier.
Village Character
The church tower of Pérols-sur-Vézère contains a staircase. The pink granite of Pérols-sur-Vézère was quarried locally.
Variéras can be discovered on a walk; however, the houses are private residences.
Getting There
The Les Cars archaeological trail can be reached sustainably from Pérols-sur-Vézère TER station. There are direct train connections from Limoges and Ussel, as well as connections requiring a change from Brive-la-Gaillarde and Tulle.
Since 11 December 2022, request stops at Pérols-sur-Vézère station were initially trialled and subsequently made permanent.
