Nature
The Bois de Chaleix covers around 150 hectares and is bordered by the Vézère. The “Boucle des myrtilles” begins along the river. The Alain Mimoun Trail includes a long, rocky single-track section along the Vézère. The Trail de la Vézère gradually climbs to the summit of the Bois de Chaleix at an altitude of 800 metres. Bugeat also has numerous hiking trails.
The “Les Villages” hiking trail follows old paths connecting villages. Another route is the challenging 45-kilometre circular route “Le Site des Cars”, which begins near the stadium at the Espace 1000 Sources in Bugeat.
The Bois de Chaleix permanent orienteering course is recognised by the French Orienteering Federation and offers seven levels of difficulty. The Bois de Chaleix orienteering area is open free of charge all year round. Fishing is also possible in the Bois de Chaleix.
Picnic tables are available at the Étang de Bugeat. A small tree-climbing facility is located near the Étang de Bugeat. Discs for the disc golf course in Bugeat are available free of charge at the campsite, the holiday village and the tourist information office.
Culture
The Église Saint-Pardoux is a former Romanesque building that was remodelled in the 15th century. Its choir, crossing and transept were placed under heritage protection by decree of 24 February 1917.
The Maison du Granite in Bugeat is a permanent exhibition about granite and its many uses. It covers geology, erosion and landscapes, granite extraction, granite processing, as well as folk heritage and artistic aspects. The “Bugeat, terre de granite” discovery experience showcases typical granite houses and contemporary sculptures in Bugeat.
