Hiking and pilgrimage

The Saint-Alban-sur-Limagnole Historical Circular Trail is a very easy circular walking route with 11 historical stops. The route takes one hour and includes 58 metres of ascent.

Culture and history

The parish church of Saint-Alban was listed as a historic monument by decree of 19 November 1985. Its oldest part is the choir, with an apse covered by a semi-dome vault. The church also features a two-storey bell gable with arcades.

The Château de Saint-Alban-sur-Limagnole is mentioned as early as the 12th century. It was rebuilt in the 15th century and converted into a psychiatric hospital in 1821. The Renaissance château houses the tourist office, which hosts temporary exhibitions and events in its beautiful courtyard.

The Scénovision de St Alban is a 40-minute journey through time that tells the history of the Margeride.

Nature

The Cascade du Franquet is fed by the Limagnole River. A marked trail behind the hospital leads to the Cascade du Franquet and can be accessed on foot or by mountain bike.

Cycling

The Le Franquet – VTT No. 21 mountain bike route starts in Saint-Alban-sur-Limagnole and includes a round trip to the Cascade du Franquet.

For the L'étang de la Rouvière – VTT No. 22 route, parking is indicated at Place du Breuil by the town hall. The route leads from Saint-Alban-sur-Limagnole through meadows and forests to the Étang de la Rouvière, showcasing its flora and fauna.

The Les Fours à Pain – VTT No. 23 route leads to typical villages in the Margeride. There, visitors can discover bread ovens and other small heritage features as evidence of former village life.
