Saint-Gervais-sur-Mare: Holiday apartments and houses

The Castrum de Neyran is a medieval castrum on the Serre de Neyran, overlooking Saint-Gervais-sur-Mare. It features slate buildings dating from the 11th to the 15th century.

Culture and history

The Église Saint-Gervais-Saint-Protais is protected as a historic monument. It is located in the centre of the enclosure of the medieval town, at the foot of the former lord's castle.

At the Maison Cévenole museum, the exhibition presents elements of the interior furnishings of a local house from around a century ago. The museum also presents the traditional trades of barrel-hoop makers, nail smiths and bell makers. On request, the Maison Cévenole offers tours of Neyran.

The Chapelle Saint-Barthélémy was consecrated in 1706. Notre-Dame de Lorette is a pilgrimage chapel dating from the 16th century.

Trails and landscape

From the Notre-Dame de Lorette bridge, the Castrum de Neyran can be reached via a path that is partly paved with calade and cut into the rock. The Haute Vallée de la Mare hike is a 17-kilometre circular route classified as difficult, with a stated duration of six hours. It offers views of the Mare valley, the Monts d’Orb, the rocks of Orque, the Serre de More and the Portal of Roquandouire.

Notre-Dame de Lorette lies on the banks of the Mare. The shady surroundings are suitable for a picnic by the river. At the Ranch de La Vallée de La Mare, visitors can swim in the Mare to cool off before or after a hike.

The Route des Vins – Vins et Montagnes runs from Saint-Gervais-sur-Mare and Saint-Etienne-Estréchoux to La Tour-sur-Orb.
