Mauguio: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Plage du Petit Travers is a 3 km stretch of fine sandy beach lined with dunes. Between entrances 73 and 74, there is a designated 200 m² kitesurfing zone where visitors can learn to handle kites and boards.
When planning a trip, you may wish to rent a holiday apartment in Mauguio.
Culture and History
The Château des Comtes de Melgueil was built in the Middle Ages and has been classified as a historic monument since 2010. Guided tours of the Château des Comtes de Melgueil last 1 hour and 30 minutes.
The Galerie d’Art Prévert is housed in the town’s former girls’ school and offers year-round exhibitions of painting, sculpture and photography across 100 m². The Jardin de la Motte is laid out around a medieval hill, a remnant of the former castle of the Lords of Melgueil. From the summit of the Jardin de la Motte, views extend across Mauguio, the coastal plain and, on clear days, as far as the Étangs and the Mediterranean.
Nature and Trails
The Chemin du Cabanier includes the Cabane aux Tamaris, described as a remnant of former fishermen’s huts dating from 3,000 years ago. The Sentier du Cabanier is almost 5 km long and can be explored on foot, by bicycle or on horseback.
The Étang de l’Or, also known as the Étang de Mauguio, is designated as a Natura 2000 site and is home to seabirds, crustaceans, algae and seagrass beds. A 5 km round trip along the shores of the Étang de l’Or leads to the Bay of La Capoulière and offers opportunities to observe flamingos and other waterbirds.
The Jardin des Dunes is a landscaped pedestrian area at the entrance to the port of Carnon, open towards the sea and suitable for walks and entertainment. Next to the Jardin des Dunes is an almost 10 m-long pirate ship that serves as a family play area with a climbing net, a swaying bridge, a platform and a slide.
Activities
The Yacht Club de Mauguio Carnon offers sailing courses year-round, from Optimists to sailing boats, including windsurfing, wingfoiling and windfoiling. Longe Côte Mauguio Carnon is offered year-round at three levels: Zen, Leisure and Sport.
The Voie verte du Lido is a linear cycle path approximately 2.5 km long, beginning at the Petit Travers car park and running to La Grande Motte.
