Le Pouget: Holiday apartments and houses

Le Pouget is a fortified circular village, locally called “Lou Piochet” and now referred to as a “circulade”; as a wine-growing village, it is built around this circulade. The historic center was established in the 12th century with two successive defensive rings around a now-lost donjon dating from the 11th century.

Those choosing Le Pouget as a destination can plan their stay with the intention of renting a holiday apartment.

Culture and history

The fountain on Place du Griffe was built in 1688. The Romanesque Église Saint-Jacques was built around the same time as the village fortifications; by decree of April 24, 1954, it was listed as a historic monument.

The parish church of Sainte-Catherine was built in the 13th century. Its sacristy was built in 1635 and completed in 1762; in 1866, the nave was extended to the west by one bay, and two side chapels were added in 1880.

The prehistoric Dolmen du Gallardet is located at the Pas de Gallardet in Le Pouget. It lies a few hundred meters from the historic center and consists of a passage, an antechamber, and a burial chamber.

Landscape and trails

The “Randonnée du Dolmen et du Fossé des Yeux” route passes through the plain of l'Estang, a marshland drained in the 9th century through an underground gallery known as the Fossé des Yeux. As of February 6, 2026, the route is closed indefinitely due to the risk of collapse on the final section at the Chemin des Costettes; the first section to the Dolmen du Pouget remains accessible as an out-and-back route.

Public attractions

The Ferme Pédagogique du Dolmen is an animal facility open to the public and school groups, with 250 animals on 5 hectares of green space, some of which roam freely.
