In the historic centre of Balaruc-le-Vieux, the tour follows the Promenade des Remparts and offers, further down in the Barrys district, whose name means “suburbs”, a view of the old mill on the Canal de La Gau. From Balaruc-le-Vieux, the Massif de la Gardiole can be reached.

Townscape and History
The present form of the Église Saint-Maurice dates back to the 14th century and features several Romanesque elements. The church also has a large Gothic portal and a rose window with six trefoil lobes. In the Église Saint-Maurice, a stained-glass window depicts Saint Maurice, the village’s patron saint.
Every year in July, a medieval festival is held in Balaruc-le-Vieux, during which the fortification walls are illuminated.
Natural Environment
La Crique de l’Angle is a wetland at the foot of the fortified village of Balaruc-le-Vieux, classified as a Natura 2000 site. Where the fresh water of the La Vène river meets the brackish water of the Étang de Thau lagoon, a marsh ecosystem has developed.
At La Crique de l’Angle, visitors can observe flamingos, grey herons, herons and other wading birds. A greenway crosses the area, allowing walkers and cyclists to experience the protected surroundings.

Les Paniers de Thau is a producers’, gourmet and evening market held at Place Marcel Pradel in Balaruc-le-Vieux.
