From Mont Bouquet, there are panoramic views of Mont Ventoux to the east, Mont Aigoual to the west, the Ardèche uplands to the north and the expanses of the garrigue to the south. Those choosing Bouquet as a holiday destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment.
Landscape
The entire municipality of Bouquet lies within the Garrigues de Lussan Natura 2000 site. Mont Bouquet is designated as a listed site and consists of garrigue and rocks. At the same time, it is the highest peak in the garrigue of the Gard département.
Nature
The Aiguières de Bouquet are a natural site with challenging access. The Aiguières are hollows eroded into limestone by the Séguissous stream. Access to the Aiguières is via steep, rocky and difficult, unmarked paths; there is no designated car park at the Aiguières. At least from spring to autumn, the Aiguières carry no water.
Culture and History
The Grotte de la Monédière, also known as the Grotte des Camisards, contains finds dating from the Late Neolithic to the Late Bronze Age. Bouquet also preserves the ruins of the Chapelle Saint-Jean de Suzon, built between the 11th and 13th centuries. The ruins and the old adjoining cemetery of the Saint-Martin de Bouquet church have also been preserved.
The Castellas of Bouquet is interpreted as an initially defensive castrum that later became an inhabited castellum. A local association is committed to preserving, enhancing and culturally revitalising the Castellas of Bouquet.
Active Pursuits
The Castellas can be reached from the hamlet of Puech via the Route du Castellas (D 147a), and at the Col du Bourricot via a farm track branching off to the right. The “Parcours VTT Bouquet final” mountain-bike route also passes through Bouquet.
