Barjac: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Château des Comte du Roure consists of three castles of different ages and styles. A courtyard separates the three structures from one another.

Culture

The Chapel of the Capuchin Monastery is part of the town’s religious history. It was built in the second half of the 17th century and is associated with the arrival of Capuchin missionaries in Barjac in 1633. The Église Saint Laurent was built between 1672 and 1692 to replace the older Saint Laurent de Maillac church on the outskirts of the town. It was restored and extended in 1862.

The Hôtel particulier Dufour includes a 16th-century tower and is one of the eight towers currently documented in Barjac’s old town. The Tour Renaissance is privately owned and cannot be visited. It was probably built in the 16th century and is considered an outstanding example of Barjac architecture.

Nature and trails

Dolmen I of Oeillantes is considered the finest of the dolmens in Barjac. The circular hiking trail “Randonnée Dolmens et capitelles” starts and ends at the car park on Place du 8 mai in Barjac; it is 14.49 km long. The route passes through forests and garrigue and offers views of the Cévennes.

Another route is called “Gaspard se balade à Barjac” and is 9 km long.

Local life

The Foire Bio de Barjac brings together local organic producers, local crafts and ecological products on Place Charles Guynet.
