Culture and history
One of the notable structures on the Canal du Midi is the Épanchoir de l’Argent-Double. It was completed in 1694 according to plans by Vauban and consists of a series of eleven ashlar arches.
The present-day Saint-Pierre-aux-liens church was built around 1849. Its portal is designed in the Romanesque Revival style. The Château de La Redorte, a neoclassical building from the 18th century with a decorated triangular pediment and four square towers, is also part of the town’s architectural history.
Less than one kilometre downstream from the port of La Redorte, before the Métairie du Bois bridge, there is a former “dînée”. It served as a midday stop for the “barque de poste”.
Water and walking trails
The Port-la-Fabrique mooring site is the starting point for a walk to the Épanchoir de l’Argent-Double and the Dînée. Another link between the waterscape and the natural environment is provided by the “Les Douze Ponts (Épanchoir)” hiking route, which connects the Canal du Midi with the Estagnol nature reserve.
The surrounding area also includes Lac de la Métairie du Bois. The shaded and easily accessible body of water covers just over two hectares and is suitable for coarse fishing.
