Le Bourget showcases, within a small area, traces of aviation history and memories of the Franco-Prussian War. The Église Saint-Nicolas was rebuilt at a new location around 1750. During the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, it was the scene of fierce fighting; five paintings inside commemorate these events.

The townscape also preserves historical features: Le Bourget’s RER station is a classic, harmonious building from the period when the railway line to Soissons was built. The town hall bears witness to the architectural style of the 1930s. Its grand staircase contains a fresco by Charles Fouqueret depicting a scene from the battles of 1870.

Several memorial sites relate to the events of 1870 and 1871. The Monument de l’Épée brisée commemorates the soldiers who fell for France in 1870. The Monument aux Morts de 1870 chapel on Avenue du Président Kennedy preserves the remains of more than 500 soldiers. In the cemetery, a pyramid erected by the Prussians commemorates their fallen comrades. The Ensemble de trois monuments commémoratifs de la guerre de 1870-1871 has been designated as “Patrimoine d’intérêt régional”.

The Musée de l’Air et de l’Espace presents the history of aviation and space travel along a thematically and chronologically structured route through exhibition halls. Planète Pilote complements this offering with almost 40 fun, interactive activities relating to aviation and space travel, as well as the scientific principles of aeronautics.

Simupilote teaches the basics of flying; the attraction also enables a complete simulated flight between Paris-Le Bourget and Roissy CDG airports. Two floors of the historic airport control tower are open to visitors. As you climb, a digital device explains the landing process.

The Salon International de l’Aéronautique et de l’Espace takes place at Paris-Le Bourget every two years. During the public weekend, families and aviation enthusiasts can experience exhibited aircraft, civil and military aircraft, drones, prototypes, events and air shows.

In the immediate vicinity of Le Bourget, the historic Aérogare du Bourget houses collections belonging to the Musée de l’Air et de l’Espace. It is the only airport terminal of its generation from the 1930s still preserved in France.

Geographical location

The Laboratoire Reptiles et Amphibiens museum is located in the vicinity of Le Bourget. The Musée de Cluny, the Palais Bourbon and the Musée de Luxembourg are also nearby. The surrounding area also includes Île Saint-Louis as an island and Île de la Cité as a park.
