Culture and History
Crèvecœur-en-Brie grew up around a small defensive fort, with several houses grouped around it since the 11th century. The chapel associated with Crèvecœur-en-Brie is said to have been built in 1226. In old parish registers, the church is referred to as “CREPICORDIUM”.
The Château de Crèvecœur-en-Brie became the summer residence of French kings in the 13th and 14th centuries. The present-day château in the town centre was built in 1897 on the ruins of the former château.
