History and Architecture

A document dating from 1173 names Grégoire as the abbot of Saint-Serein de Chantemerle. The 1173 document for Saint-Serein de Chantemerle was issued in Chantemerle in the abbey chapter. The former Augustinian abbey in Chantemerle was founded in 1180 and dedicated to Saint Serein. At the beginning of the 12th century, the former abbey was run by Canons Regular of Saint Augustine; in 1683, it was united with Saint-Loup Abbey in Troyes.

Routes

The cycling route Les coteaux du Sézannais passes through Chantemerle. It is easy, 34.5 kilometres long, and takes approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes. The circular route is associated with cultural and historical heritage, geology, and flora.

The Route touristique du Champagne passes through La Celle-sous-Chantemerle, Chantemerle, Bethon, and Montgenost towards the southwestern end of the Coteaux Sézannais.
