Culture and history

The Auditoire de justice is a former seigneurial court and conveys the history of the lords of Joinville. The Apothicairerie museum contains more than 230 pots and pieces of equipment. The Apothicairerie also displays a collection of pots and equipment from the former Sainte-Croix hospital pharmacy.

The Château du Grand Jardin was built between 1533 and 1546 by Claude de Lorraine, the first Duke of Guise. Its gardens have been awarded the designation “Jardin remarquable”. The garden complex comprises a formal garden combining Renaissance and Classicist styles, as well as a romantic park.

The Pont du Poncelot is a 16th-century bridge. The Quais des Maille and des Peceaux are known as “la petite Venise”. The Chapelle Saint-Anne features remarkable stained-glass windows and is designed in the flamboyant Gothic style. The Église Notre-Dame houses the relic known as the ceinture de Saint-Joseph.

The Couvent des Annonciades was rebuilt from 1760 onwards and features classical architectural elements such as a monumental staircase and a refectory. The Auditoire de Joinville presents historical reconstructions with 80 life-size costumed figures. Several cast-iron statues in the Parc du Petit Bois commemorate Joinville's outstanding art foundry tradition.
