The Balade des mariniers is a 4.2 km tourist trail in Combleux. Along the way, 18 information panels provide insights into the environment, local flora and fauna, and the history of Combleux.

The circular walk “Le mystère des mariniers de Combleux” begins at the corner of Rue de la Passerelle and Chemin de halage, is 2 km long, and takes about one hour. The “Circuit entre canal et Loire” circular trail offers viewpoints along the riverbank, on the towpaths, and in the village lanes, combining the river landscape with the heritage of the canal.

With Escapades Ligériennes, visitors can set off from Combleux on a traditional Loire boat, the covered Toue L'Jacques, while learning about the river’s flora and fauna and the history of inland navigation.

Culture

The extension of the Canal d’Orléans to the Loire at Combleux was completed in 1691; the first boat passed through in 1692. The Church of Saint-Symphorien houses a votive boat and a stained-glass window depicting Saint Nicholas in the choir.

The Pont Tournant was built in 1913 as a movable road bridge. Its roadway could rotate around an axis to allow boats to pass. The Fête des mariniers is a lively tradition held every two years on Saint Symphorian’s Day, the last Sunday in August.

Near Combleux lies the historic site of Église Cathédrale D'Orléans. Also nearby are the Statue de Jeanne d'Arc monument and the Place du Martroi park. Further afield in the region around Combleux are the Château de Latingy and Château de Claireau.

Geographical Location

Combleux can be reached by car via the A10, the D2152, and the D2060. TAO buses also run from Mardié or Saint-Jean-de-Braye, and it is possible to continue by TAO bus from Orléans.
