Culture
The Église Saint-Martin in Sambin was built in 1882 by Anatole de Baudot, the diocesan architect. In the north aisle, in front of the last window, is the Sainte Néomoise group of figures. It depicts an upright, goat-footed shepherdess with a dog and sheep at her feet and is classified as a historic object.
The church’s furnishings include a stained-glass window depicting the charity of Saint Martin and a replica of the window from Saint-Lubin de Suèvre. The Église Saint-Martin in Sambin also contains the statue Vierge de Douleur and the statue Christ en croix. The statue Vierge de Douleur comes from a Calvary and features modern polychromy. A statue of Saint Vincent in the Église Saint-Martin has been registered as movable cultural heritage since 29 April 1975.
The Fontaine Saint-Urbain continues to exist outside the new sanctuary, at the foot of its wall. It contains a piece of fossilized wood that has been reinstalled on a pedestal and secured to protect it from damage; access to the cavity is closed by a locked grille. Historically, the Fontaine Saint-Urbain was associated with pilgrim ceremonies in which people sought to be freed from stupidity through prayers and by placing their heads on the so-called “pierre de bois”.
