Maurepas: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Maurepas combines garden culture and sacred history with a landscape of ponds and a circular trail. Its special features are reflected in historic buildings, botanical diversity, bird migration and designated activities.

Gardens and Architecture

The Domaine de Poulaines bears the French “Jardin remarquable” label. It is located in a 25-hectare wooded park with themed gardens and an arboretum. The Domaine includes a manor house with Renaissance roof structures, Renaissance outbuildings and 19th-century outbuildings, as well as a 17th-century farm building. The botanical conservatory of the Domaine de Poulaines is home to more than 1,300 different species.

The gardens of the Domaine de Poulaines are open from April to October. Groups can visit them throughout the year by prior reservation. The Domaine de Poulaines offers, among other things, jam, honey and essential lavender oil to take home.

Church and History

The Church of Saint-Saturnin was built on the former Saint-Saturnin priory. Its Romanesque origins date back to the second half of the 12th century; it was remodelled in the 15th and 16th centuries. It houses 15 exceptional carved wooden choir stalls from the 15th century, originating from the former La Vernusse Abbey. On 5 December 1908, the 15 stalls were classified as movable historic objects.

The Poulaines washhouse dates from 1852 and was completely restored in 1993.

Pond and Nature

The Étang du Plessis is a 9-hectare recreational pond created in 1975 on the marshy land of Fragne. It is a favoured resting and stopover site for migratory birds. Fishing is permitted at the Étang du Plessis from mid-March until All Saints’ Day; annual or day permits are available for this purpose.

Getting Around

The Circuit des 3 vallées circular trail is 30.6 kilometres long, reserved for mountain biking and horse riding, and runs around the municipality of Poulaines.
