Renting a holiday apartment in Saint-Michel-sur-Loire can be a clear objective when planning your trip.

Culture and Trails

The Church of Saint-Michel has numerous stained-glass windows, including one depicting the victorious Archangel Michael over the demon, inspired by a painting by Raphael. The circular trail “Le village sur son coteau perché” begins at the foot of the church. The easy 6.5-kilometre hike takes approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.

History

The Grange de l’Isle dates back to the 15th century and may have served as a toll station for the lord of Saint-Michel. The Manoir de Banchereau, also known as Cave-Banchereau, is a manor house with a long white façade on a terrace cut into the hillside along the small Rue du Lane.

The Vieux Château is now privately owned; part of the surrounding wall, a barn and the entrance gate have been preserved. Together, these three elements date from the 15th century and are protected as a historic monument. The Château de Saint-Michel was built on a rocky promontory in the 15th century and overlooks the right bank of the Loire, offering a strategic view across the valley.

Local Character

Planchoury is situated on the right bank of the Loire in the municipality of Saint-Michel-sur-Loire, between Langeais and Saint-Patrice, and was formerly a fief of the Barony of Saint-Michel-sur-Loire. The Château de Planchoury, built in the 17th century, is now privately owned; the cherry variety “cerise de Planchoury” was discovered in its gardens in 1844, and the local hiking trail passes by the estate. The hillside of Saint-Michel-sur-Loire was covered with vineyards for a long time.
