The Étang de Malicorne is classified as a ZNIEFF type 1 natural area and was probably created by humans for fish farming. It is one of the four known breeding sites of the common teal (Sarcelle d’hiver, Anas crecca) in the Yonne department. Its ecological richness includes rare and protected plants as well as aquatic fauna such as insects, fish, amphibians and mammals.

Culture

The Church of Notre-Dame de l’Assomption is located in the centre of Malicorne. The present-day Notre-Dame de Malicorne church dates from the 15th century. Its portal is decorated with pointed-arch archivolts from Fontainejean Abbey, while the walls feature painted decoration dating from the 19th century.

Hiking

“Poussières d’étoiles” is a moderately difficult 10.1-kilometre hike with a stated duration of three hours and an elevation gain of 35 metres. The route is marked as hiking trail number 110 and leads through the countryside between the Ouanne and the Branlin. The Branlin and its tributary, the Agréau, run alongside the route; in places, they form wetlands.

Agriculture

EARL Dubois offers the public guided tours of its farm in Malicorne. The farm also sells fresh lamb, pork and beef to order, as well as processed products at retail every week.
