Vauluisant Abbey was founded in 1127 by Cistercian monks from Preuilly (Égligny). The surviving buildings of Vauluisant Abbey have been protected as historic monuments since 1930. The French Revolution finally closed the abbey.

Culture
The Church of Courgenay was built between 1854 and 1856 on the site of an earlier church whose tower dated from the Romanesque period. The church contains two crucifixes from the 17th and 18th centuries. The windows in the choir and in the front section of the side aisles were created by Jean-François Comment between 1965 and 1967.

The Parc de l'Abbaye de Vauluisant covers approximately 9 hectares and is designated as an archaeological reserve because it contains the foundations of the abbey. The park is crossed by the Alain River and part of the former Cistercian water system.

The signposted La Singerie hiking route is 8.5 km long. La Singerie is a former barn belonging to Vauluisant Abbey. The route starts in the area in front of the town hall or at the Courgenay swimming pool.
