Coulanges-la-Vineuse lies between two valleys on a ridge sloping towards the Yonne Valley and is known for its wine production. The historic streets resemble a labyrinth and reveal traces of the village’s rich history everywhere.

Culture
The present-day Église Saint-Christophe in the centre of the village is a listed historic monument, classified as a Monument historique since 1947. It was built from 1737 to 1742 according to plans by the architect Servandoni. The church can be visited by prior appointment; the keys must be requested from the presbytery for this purpose.
The Maison Jeanne d’Arc was listed as a Monument historique in 1929 and is the last surviving example of 15th-century architecture in Coulanges-la-Vineuse. Le Pressoir and its adjoining building were also listed as Monuments historiques in 2002. Le Pressoir is one of the few remaining and visitable presses of the “à abattage” type.
The construction year, 1561, is preserved on the façade of the Maison aux Cariatides. Its painted ceilings can be viewed upon request at the town hall.
The Musée de la vigne displays tools, machines and objects connected with wine production. The museum includes a 12th-century cellar that opens onto underground galleries. The Musée de la vigne welcomes groups by prior appointment.
Wine
The regional appellation BOURGOGNE COULANGES-LA-VINEUSE has been officially recognised since 1990 and applies to still white, red and rosé wines. At the winegrowers’ estates in Coulanges-la-Vineuse, visitors can taste AOC wines, including red wines made from Pinot Noir as well as rosé and white wines.
Landscape
The hiking trail offers views of Coulanges-la-Vineuse and the Yonne Valley from the plateau. From Auxerre, the OenoBus travels to six typical wine villages: Coulanges-la-Vineuse, Escolives-Sainte-Camille, Irancy, Chitry, Saint-Bris-le-Vineux and the hamlet of Bailly. After getting off, visitors can continue exploring on foot.
