The Grande Traversée du Massif Central gravel route runs through Chalaux. It reaches Lac du Crescent, which has a viewpoint overlooking the lake. Rafting and white-water swimming are possible in the Chalaux valley. The entire Chalaux catchment area belongs to the Parc naturel régional du Morvan.

History and culture

During the Second World War, the Ferme des Goths was an important regional centre of the Resistance and served as the headquarters of the Maquisards.

The Église de Chalaux is a parish church dedicated to Saint Germain and Saint Fiacrius. It was built in 1848 in the 12th-century Neo-Romanesque style and features a stained-glass window dating from 1872.

The Lavoir de Chalaux is located on the banks of the river of the same name and is visible from the bridge structure of the Départemental road 128. The washhouse has an impluvium-like opening in the roof and a double-pitched roof covered with slate.

Geographical location

The Château de Chastellux-sur-Cure is located near Chalaux. The historic site of the Abbaye bénédictine Saint-Martin de Chors is situated in the surrounding area.
