The Maison des Fouilles d’Entrains-sur-Nohain has been located at its present site since 1971. It serves as an exhibition and storage facility for archaeological finds from Entrains and the surrounding area.

Culture and History

The Maison des Fouilles archéologiques presents collections from the archaeological site beneath Entrains, documenting the ancient settlement of Intaranum. Intaranum flourished from the 1st century BC to the 4th century AD. During the Roman period, the settlement covered approximately 80 hectares; the necropolises are not included in this figure.

Ancient Intaranum was situated on a slight promontory at an elevation of 225 metres above the confluence of the Nohain and Trélon rivers. The Église Saint-Sulpice, with its 13th-century choir, is also part of the local architectural heritage. The Maison de l’Amiral was built in 1636 for Roger II de Saint-Lary (1562–1646), Duke of Bellegarde.

The Maison des Fouilles combines a permanent exhibition with a temporary exhibition presented anew each summer on a specific topic related to the archaeology of Entrains.

The “À la découverte d’Entrains-sur-Nohain” walking route is 2.5 kilometres long, takes approximately 1.5 hours, and is classified as easy.

The Circuit du manège à eau includes a fishing stop at the pond and runs past around a dozen washhouses.
