The area known as “Cascades et sources tufeuses de Saint-Marc-sur-Seine” was designated the eleventh Espaces naturel sensible of the Côte-d’Or département on November 8, 2021.

Culture and history
The parish church of Saint-Marc was built at the end of the 15th or beginning of the 16th century. The year 1741 is engraved on the sacristy door, while the nave was remodeled in the second half of the 18th century. The parish church also contains a limestone statuette of a holy monk from the second half of the 16th century.
The Maurice Mill operated from the beginning of the 19th century and was one of the last active family mills in the Côte-d’Or département; it is no longer in operation today. A significant forge operated from 1688 in the hamlet of Chenecières, which belongs to Saint-Marc-sur-Seine. The forge in Chenecières stood on the site of a mill known since the 15th century.
In Saint-Marc-sur-Seine, the remains of a 17th-century monastic complex have been preserved, along with a dovecote covered with lava stones. In his laboratory beside the workers’ houses in Chenecières, Louis Cailletet carried out experiments on the liquefaction of gases and artificial refrigeration.
The partially underground washhouse has a protective wrought-iron railing. An old round brick chimney in Chenecières is a reminder of the site’s industrial past.
Route
The Sentier des Châteaux follows a white road along the Seine Valley to Saint-Marc-sur-Seine. At the Sentier des Châteaux, cross the bridge; then immediately turn right onto a footpath. After crossing the D971, the Sentier des Châteaux climbs uphill to the village church and then continues.
