Marigny-Le-Cahouët: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In the centre of Marigny-le-Cahouët stands the Church of Saint-Germain, built from the 1450s onwards in the Flamboyant Gothic style. It is listed as a French historic monument; the listing was made by decree on 3 June 1927. Inside, it preserves statues from the 15th and 16th centuries, a liturgical lavabo from the same period, a Renaissance altar, paintings and a 17th-century funeral band. In addition, a remarkable 16th-century cross sculpture stands in the former cemetery next to the church.

Culture

History

On the Yonne side of the Canal de Bourgogne, the site of Lock 18, known as Marigny 1ère, lies in Marigny-le-Cahouët. It belongs to the section of the Canal de Bourgogne that was opened to traffic in 1832. The site of Lock 24 was established for this section, which opened in 1832; the lock keeper's house there was probably built in 1834.

The lock keeper's house at the site of Lock 18 stands on the right bank. It consists of rendered rubble masonry, has a roof with machine-made flat tiles, a well below it and a wooden shed on the left bank. The lock keeper's house at the site of Lock 24 stands on the left bank, consists of rendered rubble masonry with a flat-tile roof and incorporates the former well into its façade.

The Marigny-le-Cahouët basin is shown on a boundary map from the 1860s. Quarries or quarry spoil heaps indicate that the site previously served a function related to the transport of stone.

The section of the greenway running through Marigny-le-Cahouët along the Canal de Bourgogne is part of the Tour de Bourgogne. It stretches for 54.5 km along a paved towpath suitable for cycling and walking. A picnic area is located at the intersection of the Canal de Bourgogne and the D10 in Marigny-le-Cahouët.
