In Is-sur-Tille, the promenade along Rue Gambetta follows the Bief des Courtines, whose existence has been documented since the 12th century. Between the town centre and Parc des Capucins, washhouses line the watercourse. Culture
The Espace Carnot is a cultural and digital centre open to everyone, with a media library, exhibition space, digital area, video game room, toy library and digital museum. It is located in the former Carnot School, which was built in 1884 from stone quarried in Is-sur-Tille.
The Église Saint-Léger was built in the 12th century on the site of an older place of worship; Merovingian sarcophagi were discovered there in the 1960s. Its bell tower is covered with glazed tiles typical of Burgundian architecture and has three bells, including the 1,802-kilogram Louise.
The Olivier-de-Lénoncourt Tower and gargoyles from the first castle, built on this site in 1537, have been preserved at Château Charbonnel. The façade of Château Charbonnel bears gargoyles dating from 1657, when the second castle was built on the site of the first.
The Gothic Chapelle Saint-Charles was built from July 1848 onwards to house the burial place of the founder and his daughter Caroline. Concerts are listed for the Banfield organ of the Église Saint-Léger for the years 2019, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.
The surviving memorial of the American camp in Is-sur-Tille comprises a restored chimney from the officers’ mess building, reserve tanks near the RD 959 and a stele in the industrial zone. In summer, a free guided tour on the history of the American camp was offered under the direction of René Perrat; registration with the tourist office was required.
As part of the restoration of the rose garden in 2022, the town commissioned the creation of the “Belle issoise” rose as an image of the town. The Kiosque and rose garden site includes a pergola intended as a rose garden, as well as a decorative kiosk characteristic of 19th-century gardens.
Nature and Trails
Les Mauritaines is a forest circular trail through the forests of Is-sur-Tille and across the limestone plateau above the town. The circular trail starts at the Capucins car park in Is-sur-Tille, is 10.9 kilometres long, takes approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes, and is marked in yellow.
Cuisine
The educational truffle plantation of Pays Seine-et-Tilles in Is-sur-Tille is located on the Route de la truffe de Bourgogne and offers a fun, educational trail open to everyone all year round. The Burgundy truffle (Tuber uncinatum) is a local speciality of Is-sur-Tille; it is the subject of specialised research, and COVATI organises an annual fair dedicated to it.
