Châtillon-Sur-Seine: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The tomb of the Lady of Vix is a princely burial dating from around 500 BC. At the Musée du Pays Châtillonnais – Trésor de Vix, it is presented as evidence of the wealth and status of the early European elites.

Culture and History

The Musée du Châtillonnais has been recognized as a Musée de France since 17 September 2003 and covers the fields of archaeology, fine art, history and natural sciences. The Musée du Pays Châtillonnais – Trésor de Vix has 2,000 m² of exhibition space and is housed in the buildings of Notre-Dame Abbey.

The Église Saint-Nicolas was built in the last quarter of the 12th century and has been classified as a historic monument since 1942. Its special features include two stained-glass windows from the 16th century, associated with the Tree of Jesse and the legend of the pilgrims of Saint-Jacques de Compostelle, and having Trojan origins.

The Maison Philandrier is a house built in the 16th century for a respected citizen. One room on the first floor is decorated with 17th-century murals depicting the four continents; the paintings are concealed by paneling and could therefore not be examined.

Architecture and Sacred Sites

The Auditoire Royal building was constructed at the end of the 16th century. It has painted decoration from the Classical period; its interior was completed in the 17th century.

The Église Saint-Vorles is a simple church with Lombard arcades and was built at the beginning of the 11th century. Its underground chapel is dedicated to Saint Bernard. The church also houses a 16th-century sculptural group of the Holy Sepulchre.

The Vestiges du Château des Ducs de Bourgogne were built in the 12th and 14th centuries as an advanced fortress of the Duchy of Burgundy and demolished in 1598. Guided tours of the Vestiges du Château des Ducs de Bourgogne are available for groups by prior arrangement.

Activities

VTT trail no. 1, “Circuit d'initiation de la Belette,” starts in Châtillon-sur-Seine. It is designated as a blue route, difficulty level 1, is 12.3 km long and is indicated as taking approximately one hour.

Culinary Experiences

The Fête du Crémant includes a public Crémant village with sales and tastings. The “Sur les pas des Ducs de Bourgogne” guided tour included a tasting of three Crémants du Châtillonnais.
