Saint-Symphorien: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The main construction phase of the Église Saint-Symphorien took place in the 16th century. Since 21 December 1925, the church has been listed as a historic monument.

Nature

The Lagunes de Saint-Symphorien are a 33.98-hectare ZNIEFF natural area in Saint-Symphorien. They are designated as a site under the Habitats Directive (ZSC, SIC, PSIC) and are located in a regional nature park.

The Hure is a tributary of the Ciron and rises within the municipal area of Saint-Symphorien.

Art and Culture

Since 2009, the Forêt d’Art Contemporain has pursued the goal of creating a regional route for the production and promotion of contemporary art in rural areas. The Forêt d’Art Contemporain hosts artists in residence, presents their work and develops a route featuring changing works of art.

The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region commissioned ALCA to plan and implement the writing residencies at Chalet Mauriac in Saint-Symphorien. Chalet Mauriac, now owned by the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, opens its doors to cultural professionals from the fields of books, film and new forms of writing.

David Boeno’s 2014 installation “7 Comètes à venir” invites visitors in Saint-Symphorien to take a walk through a park lined with seven tree trunks, cut at angles corresponding to the calculated elliptical orbits of seven comets.

The 19th-century railway workshops in Saint-Symphorien are considered one of the few examples of their kind in Europe.

Paths

The “Balades à roulettes – Chalet François Mauriac” route crosses footbridges offering views of wetlands and the La Hure stream.

The hiking route in Saint-Symphorien uses a section of the cycle path from Mios to Bazas, which follows the route of the former railway line of the Compagnie des Chemins de Fer Economiques.

Market

The weekly market in Saint-Symphorien takes place every Wednesday morning in the town centre, on the Place de la République, and offers fruit and vegetables, fish, meat and other fresh products.
