Saint-Martin-De-Sescas: Holiday apartments and holiday homes
Culture and history
The main construction phase of the Église prieurale Saint-Martin dates back to the 12th century. The church has a portal in the Saintongeais style. This portal was classified as a Monument historique by decree of 1 December 1908; the rest of the church was placed under heritage protection by decree of 24 December 1925.
In 1102, the Lord of Castel donated the church, the adjacent priory and its associated mill, Aleran, to the third abbot of La Sauve. The adjacent priory of Festals, also known as Sesquars, is located next to the Saint-Martin church in Saint-Martin-de-Sescas.
A description from 1857 reports around 100 carved figures of people and animals in the Saint-Martin-de-Sescas church.
An airial, a remnant of an older settlement, has been preserved in Saint-Martin-de-Sescas.
Those choosing Saint-Martin-de-Sescas as a travel destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment there.
