Culture and history
“La claverie” is a fortified house built by the English at the end of the Middle Ages, in the 15th century. During the Hundred Years’ War, it occupied a strategic position because neighboring Francs belonged to a rival lordship. The name “claverie” derives from the Latin word “clavis”, meaning “key”.
The church “L'Église romane au XIIème siècle” combines Romanesque and Gothic styles both inside and outside and was built in several construction phases. It contains a pulpit for preaching and reading the Gospels, as well as a 17th-century bell in its bell tower. The church is dedicated to Saint Cibard, a hermit monk who settled in the village long ago.
Château de Puygueraud is a fortified house built in the 15th century. It stands on a rocky promontory at the springs of the Guérande stream, a small tributary of the Lidoire.
