Landiras: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Landiras lies at the junction of the Graves wine-growing region and the Landes forest area. The landscapes are predominantly forested and also include inhabited wine-growing landscapes that emerged from earlier forms of mixed farming. Landscape and Nature

Landiras is part of the Type I ZNIEFF “Lagunes du bassin versant du Gat Mort”, an ecological natural inventory. This ZNIEFF is designated for its ecological, faunal, floral and landscape significance. It encompasses most of the remaining lagoons in the Gat Mort drainage basin, together with the associated animal and plant life.

The Sentier des Cent Forêts is a walking trail that connects Landiras with Saint-Michel-de-Rieufret.

Culture and History

The Église Saint-Martin in Landiras is a Romanesque church dating from the 12th century. The murals discovered during surveys in 2002 on the north wall of the transept were uncovered and restored in 2006 and 2007. At the Église Saint-Martin, the eastern end of the choir was classified as a Monument historique on 20 December 1907, and the Romanesque transept was classified on 21 December 1984; the rest of the church was listed on 19 April 2004.

The Château de Landiras was a fortified structure dating from the 13th century that was destroyed and completely rebuilt in the 14th century. The surviving remains include a square curtain wall with three chamfered corners, polygonal towers, a gatehouse at the enceinte of the outer bailey, moats and a bridge. The Château de Landiras is privately owned. By prior appointment, it offers tours of the cellar rooms and the vineyard. The Château de Landiras produces red and white wines under the AOC Graves designation.

The Chapelle de Brax is believed to date from the 13th century and was mentioned from the 14th century onwards as the parish church of Brach. It is located in a very remote area near the ruins of the Châtelet, which are referred to as the Château de Landiras. The municipality restored the Chapelle de Brax to prevent its complete deterioration and strengthen the municipality’s tourist appeal.

Local History and Excursions

The Cabiros bread oven is a relic from the 19th century and was restored in 2002 and 2003. Festive events are occasionally held around it. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was decided to build fountains supplied with running water in the three most important hamlets, Artigues, Menon and Manine, as well as in the town centre.

Les Sabots de Menon offers several excursions in the area around Landiras.
