Climbing

The La Lirette climbing area in Frontenac has 38 routes with difficulty levels ranging from 4c to 6b. La Lirette can be reached via the car park behind Frontenac Town Hall; from there, a good path leads to the foot of the cliff in five minutes. La Salamandre is a climbing wall on the Domaine de la Lirette in Frontenac and is suitable exclusively for experienced climbers.

Culture

The Church of Saint-Paul is a Romanesque church dating from the 12th century and has been listed as a historic monument since 1925. The Church of Sainte-Présentine is a Romanesque church dating from the 11th century.

The remains of the Commanderie de Sallebruneau were listed as historic monuments by decree of 22 December 1987. The Commanderie de Sallebruneau consists of a church and a château built onto one another. A medieval-inspired garden adjoins the Commanderie de Sallebruneau.

Since 1965, Pierres de Frontenac has preserved the stonemasonry craft in the Gironde, passing on its techniques and expertise. Stone from Pierres de Frontenac has contributed to Bordeaux’s architecture and was used for some of the châteaux of Saint-Émilion.

Paths

The Balade de Sainte-Présentine is a 13-kilometre hike that takes around four hours. La Motte Carreau is a medieval earth mound to be discovered on the Sainte-Présentine hike. The Chemin d’Amadour continues through the Entre-deux-Mers region towards Frontenac.

Landscape

The Carrières de Frontenac are located on a limestone plateau formed in the Eocene from Astérien limestone, which is cut through by the valleys of the Coussillon, Engranne and Gourmeron. The Carrières de Frontenac in the Gironde are known for extracting Frontenac stone, also known as “pierre de Bordeaux”, which was used to build numerous buildings in the Bordeaux area.

Market

The Marché mensuel de Frontenac takes place in the covered market hall on the second Sunday of every month. Sheep’s cheese from Frontenac is sold at the Marché mensuel de Frontenac.
